Fourth Quarter Goals 2008

This Quarter, I will pass Ms. Priester's class with at least a "B." In order to achieve this, I will turn in my homework on time and complete all assignment due in her class.

This Quarter, I will not be removed from class. In order to achieve this, I will stay silent when the teacher is speaking and will not argue back with my peers or any adults.

This quarter, I will do my best to pass at least 5 out of 6 classes and also stay above a 2.5 GPA. In order to achieve this, I will complete all my homework and class work in my class and I will show up to every class on time with the supplies. I will do my best to not skip any class time.

Response to President Obama

“In a global economy where the most valuable skill you can sell is your knowledge, a good education is no longer just a pathway to opportunity – it is a prerequisite.

It is our responsibility as lawmakers and as educators to make this system work. But it is the responsibility of every citizen to participate in it. So tonight, I ask every American to commit to at least one year or more of higher education or career training. . . . And dropping out of high school is no longer an option. It's not just quitting on yourself, it's quitting on your country – and this country needs and values the talents of every American.

These education policies will open the doors of opportunity for our children. But it is up to us to ensure they walk through them. In the end, there is no program or policy that can substitute for a parent – a mother or father who will attend those parent/teacher conferences, or help with homework after dinner, or turn off the TV, put away the video games, and read to their child. I speak to you not just as a president, but as a father when I say that responsibility for our children's education must begin at home.”

-President Barack Obama, 2/24/09

I believe that by the time I'm eighteen, there will be many economic problems. Hopefully by the time I'm at least twenty there will be less problems with money and business. Education is a key to success but you also have to have the knowledge cause without it you won't be able to do anything. I agree with President Barrack Obama with all American citizen should get at least one year of extra education. In the future, i am going to keep my kids in school not only for them, but for there country. For now all i can do is stay in school and don't drop out.

Poetry Sounds

At first, I thought rhyme was two words that sounded the same, but I learned that a ryhme is a repitition of similar sounds in two or more words.

An example of a poem with end rhyme is below. The title is "Straight to Think", and the author is "Uknown"(didnt say). The rhyme scheme is End Rhyme.

On my poetry pretest, I was 10 grade-level. On my post test, I hope that I will be at a 10 grade-level.

Straight to Think

Passing by the park of dreams
Equal poles and opposite
Met and danced to different tunes
Strange now to remember it.

Walking through a field of mines
Souls in harmony at play
Things we never asked to know
Strange to think of it today.

Dreams that pass beyond the fog
Reaching clarity to fly
Look back down with secret smiles
Strange to think it was a lie.

Imagery and Figurative Language

At first, I thought imagery was pictures used inside of the poems, but I learned that this was wrong. Actually, imagery is the appeal of the five senses and it is used in not only poems but in novels too. I also learned about figurative language. I used to think figurative language was things such as similes and metaphors and i was correct, but I learned that figurative language is also personifaction and other stuff too. The three main types of figurative language are metaphors, similes, and personification.

Figurative Language Games

The best figurative language game I played tonight is Fling The Teacher, because it reminds me of Ms. Preister. In order to play this game, I had to click on the link sent to my email and answer the questions correctly. My final score on this game was 9. If you want to play this game, go to this link [ http://www.newton.k12.ks.us/tech/fling3.html ].

Another enjoyable figurative language game is Drag and Drop Metaphors, because it is a simple game and it test your skill level. In order to play this game, I had to drag and drop the correct answer on the metaphor. My final score on this game was 100%. If you want to play this game, go to this link [http://www.kidsonthenet.org.uk/dragonsville/metaphor1.htm].

My least favorite figurative language game is Simile Matching Game, because it is too boring and plain. In order to play this game, I had to drag and drop the correct similes on the phrases. My final score on this game was 6. If you want to play this game, go to this link [http://www.learnenglish.org.uk/cet/flashactivities/similes.html].
